Very excited for this movie. Directed by Joann Sfar, Gainsbourg (Vie héroïque) comes out in January 2010. Serge Gainsbourg remains compelling to this day because his music was innovative, his poetry and delivery were sensual and beautiful, and the women, Briggitte Bardot and Jane Birkin to name a few, were some of the most gorgeous to ever walk the planet. Eric Elmosnino plays Gainsbourg, Lucy Gordon plays Jane Birkin, and Laetitia Casta plays Briggitte Bardot.

Vampire Weekend

Beach House

The Very Best

Get your tickets early for this mini festival of sorts. Vampire WeekendBeach House, and The Very Best will all be playing at the beautiful outdoor venue, Starlight Theater on October 2. Each very capable of headling their own show, I expect these indie heavyweights to have some surprises for the audience. Below, “Warm Heart of Africa” by The Very Best, featuring Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig.

Like him or not, Kanye West is always doing something different. Here is a passionate and charismatic  Kanye debuting “Mama’s Boy” at the Facebook headquarters. Sans intricate stage and lighting, instrumentation, and finely-tuned production, Kanye’s voice, lyrics and presentation take center stage, and he does well in front of his audience. First was the enraged single “Power” , and now this…I’m  very excited for his new album, Good Ass Job, to (maybe) drop in September.

The William Brown Project has become one of my favorite blogs this summer. Matthew Hranek is actually the man behind the definitive-man website. On his bio he says, “I AM A PHOTOGRAPHER LIVING IN NEW YORK. I HAVE BEEN EXPLORING, FORAGING, HUNTING, FISHING AND COOKING FOR A LARGE PART OF MY LIFE. THESE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF MY COLLECTED EXPERIENCES AND INSPIRATIONS. THIS IS MY WILLIAM BROWN PROJECT.” His posts on style and clothing are classic and extremely rustic, his photography is beautiful and rugged, and most of all his organic approach to cooking, hunting and farming is inspiring. This blog is an absolute must.

And I guess I didn’t realize it till I gathered some of these pictures taken by Mr. Hranek, but he’s apparently keen on drinking as well!

As the summer comes to a close, I find myself a bit saddened with the idea of moving out of my house and into an apartment for the semester.  Luckily, I have J.Crew to keep the good times rollin’, with a new “Fall Arrivals” group of garments up-and-ready for purchase on jcrew.com.  Here is my top-5 list of what has been released so far, but let me say, these are only a few of the many incredible pieces that we will see from this company as we move into the second half of 2010

1. Cotton shawl-collar pocket cardigan.  A bit of a military style, while still staying with a cotton fabric to get great use while the months are still warm.

2. 484-slim fit vintage cord.  This cord comes in a wide array of natural colors, my favorite being the darkest, chestnut-y brown.

3 & 4. The Whitman herringbone Ludlow sportcoat and the Solid tweed Ludlow sportcoat.  The slimmest and most cropped-up of the J.Crew jackets yet.  These two jackets are my favorite two pieces from the new arrivals.  Dress it up with a shirt and tie, or down with a chambray work-shirt and V-neck.

5. Boxer check tie.  The color palette is what makes this tie.  Shades of gray, brown and olive make this piece the perfect neckwear for the upcoming season.

If you look back in our archives, you will find this post I wrote about the J.Crew Fall 2010 lookbook.  I featured both the Men’s and Women’s collections, so take a look for an idea of what will be released next from the style innovators at J.Crew.
