Last year’s Love Remains was Tom Krell’s debut as HTDW, and one of the most innovative works to emerge from the lo-fi scene. Just Once finds Krell’s delicate falsetto rising to the forefront. The EP, which features just one new song, “Suicide Dream (Orchestral Version)” summons the forlorn beauty within HTDW’s at times lugubrious vocals with lush strings and clearer production. While the production is cleaner, it’s not a step forward, just something different. And though 3 out of the 4 songs were featured on last year’s full-length, the reworkings are different enough to make this an essential listen.
