In the NPR Music offices, they run a series called the “Tiny Desk Concerts,” where well known bands suchs as Phoenix and The Antlers perform small and intimate acoustic sets for employees. Each performance is recorded and featured on their website.
It’s interesting to see the way in which a band like Phoenix is able to alter their sound for such a delicate stage. They include four songs in their set, starting with “Lisztomania”, moving to “Armistice” and then “1901”, and finally closing with their collaborated tune with Air, “Playground Love,” written the Virgin Suicides soundtrack. Their sound is gentle and welcoming, in comparison to the regularly-heart-pounding beats of their album. All in all, this was a pleasing video to watch. I was definitely jealous of the fortunate NPR attendees.
