Alex Bleeker, the bassist of Real Estate, fronts this side project that also includes Martin Courtney and Matthew Mondanile from Real Estate. Naturally, that band has a large influence on the sound of the Freaks; but this band has a sound of its own. The eight songs on this album have a hazy, lo-fi feel to them, combined with classic rock/jam band guitars that elevate the Freaks’ sound to another dimension. Lyrically, Bleeker keeps things simple, which only intensifies the focus and sound of the wailing guitars. This album is by no means a classic, but it makes for a note-worthy experiment with low quality recording tactics and Crazy Horse-style jams.
