If you like Vampire Weekend…

As their new CD grows ages, wonderfully, we thought it would be a good time to introduce you to a couple of Vampire Weekend’s earliest influences (at least we think their sound inspired these young Brooklynites…)

This 1986 album is a classic fusion of African music and American pop sensibilities. This is easily Paul Simon’s greatest achievement alone from Art Garfunkel.

This 1980 album was one of the first to infuse African polyrhythms into its sound, and David Byrne and co. do it quite well. Perhaps the most influential album of the 1980s behind Bowe’s Low.
